Review: Me & My Hijaab’s First Bookclub Session

20 Dec

I recently met a wonderful sister at the recent Smoky Not Smudgy fashion event and through social networking she introduced to the Me And My Hijaab organisation. SubhanAllah (Glory be to God), it was like divine intervention as I had recently started practising properly. Although I’ve been wearing my hijaab for a good few years now, I was working on strengthening my imaan (faith), finding my Muslim identity and most importantly, setting a good example for my kids. As we all know, we are constantly in a spiritual battle- a inner jihad with ourselves, and living in a  non-Muslim country has its challenges when it comes to our Muslim identity. It was very important for me to surround myself with like minded sisters who shared the same interests as myself when it comes to faith etc.

Allah (SWT) answered my duas (prayers)  by making it possible for me to meet the most wonderful and unbelievably generous group of sisters maa shaa Allah. The first MAMH book club I attended was an eye opener. I was very very nervous at first about meeting new sisters but maa shaa Allah I was made very welcome by all the sisters and I felt comfortable and at ease in no time.

It was refreshing to be amongst sisters with similar backgrounds as myself, that were confident, intelligent and most of all empowering
and encouraging when it comes to matters of our faith. It was also refreshing to have some adult conversation over a coffee and good food for a change. It is amazing maa shaa Allah what a bit of socialising does for you! It gave me a bit of boost to face another week of endless school runs and tedious duties.

Thank you MAMH sisters for welcoming me into your fold. May Allah (SWT) reward each and every one of you for all the wonderful work you are doing for all of the sisters out there wearing the hijaab, not wearing the hijaab, thinking of wearing the hijaab or for the sisters out there that just need that bit of support and encouragement to be part of a sisterhood.

There are a couple wonderful ahaddith (sayings and actions of the Prophet, peace be upon him) that I would like to share with you all that highlights the importance of wanting goodness for your brother or
sister for the sake of Allah:

Allah will say on the Day of Judgement: “Where are those who loved one another for My glory? Today I will shade them in My shade on the Day when there is no shade but Mine.”[Muslim]

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “A man went to visit a brother of his in another village. Allah sent an angel to wait for him on the road. When the man came along, the angel asked him, ‘Where are you headed?’ He said, ‘I am going to visit a brother of mine who lives in this village.’ The angel asked, ‘Have you done him any favour (for which you are now seeking repayment)?’ Hesaid, ‘No, I just love him for the sake of Allah.’ The angel told him, ‘I am a messenger to you from Allah, sent to tell you that He lovesyou as you love your brother for His sake.'” [Muslim]

I look forward inshaallah to the next book club and coffee morning inshaallah.
